  • A novel cluster head selection scheme based on Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks (HWSNs) is proposed which is named as ETSSEPFL (Enhanced Threshold Sensitive Stable Election Protocol using Fuzzy Logic). In ETSSEPFL, the node’s qualification for being a CH is evaluated as per the residual energy of a node and distance to a base station (BS). Based on these factors, each node applies the fuzzy rules to determine whether to become a cluster head in each round.
