  • This paper presents an Integrated file Replication and consistency Maintenance mechanism (IRM), that integrates the two techniques in a systematic and harmonized manner. It achieves high efficiency in file replication and consistency maintenance at a significantly lower cost. Instead of passively accepting replica and update, each node determines file replication and update polling by dynamically adapting to time-varying file query and update rates, which avoids unnecessary file replications and updates.

  • File popularity can be defined as the percentage of productively contacted peers with the file. Specified the random sharing of files between peers, the popularity can be interpret as the probability of having that file at a random peer. This presents the popularity of files stored and transferred among peers that establish on the network. To compute the popularity of file baseline measurements of file types and sizes are needed for comparison. For the first, this periodically recorded the names of files stored by several thousand users in the peer-to-peer network. This popularity value is automatically updated to the database. The following factors are needed to calculate the popularity of file:

    » Total number of peers and ultra-peers,
    » Total number of different files in the networks,
    » Number of file replicas.
    » Time to Live (TTL) value.
