Design and Performance Analysis of a Novel Trust Metric for the RPL Routing Protocol in IoT Using Contiki-Cooja Simulator

Cooja Project for a Novel Trust Metric for the RPL Routing Protocol in IoT

Research Area:

IOT

Research Topic:

Contiki Cooja Simulator Projects in RPL Routing Protocol

Tools and Languages:  Contiki-Cooja / Contiki NG simulator, Front End: Java, Back End: C

Software Requirements:  Vmware workstation player, Instant Contiki-3.0

Aim and Objectives:
The main objective of the project is to design and analysis of a novel trust metric for the RPL routing protocol in IoT using the contiki-cooja simulator.

Contributions:
1. The main contribution of the project is to extend DIO (DODAG Information Object) message by introducing a new trust-based metric ERNT (Extended RPL Node Trustworthiness) and a novel Objective Function TOF (Trust Objective Function).
2. In MRTS (Metric-based RPL Trustworthiness Scheme), all nodes collaborate to calculate ERNT by considering nodes- behavior, including selfishness, energy, and honesty components.
3. The primary aim is to enhance RPL security and deal with the trust inference problem.
4. This project evaluation results demonstrated that the new scheme improves the security of RPL.

Performance Evaluation:
This project is to implement and evaluate MRTS for energy consumption, routing and security overheads by extending our simulations to 25,50 nodes using the cooja simulator.
Performance Metrics:
 •  PDR
 •  Energy Consumption
 •  Throughput
 •  Delay
 •  Control Packet Overhead
 •  Execution Time
 •  CPU Energy Consumption
