Designing an Enhanced Mobility Aware RPL in IoT Using Contiki-Cooja Simulator

An Enhanced Mobility Aware RPL in IoT - Cooja Project

Research Area:

IOT

Research Topic:

Contiki Cooja Simulator Projects in RPL Routing Protocol

Tools and Languages:  Contiki-Cooja / Contiki NG simulator, Front End: Java, Back End: C

Software Requirements:  Vmware workstation player, Instant Contiki-3.0

Aim and Objectives:
This project aims to design an enhanced mobility-aware routing protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks in IoT using a contiki-cooja simulator.

Contributions:
1. This project proposes an enhanced mobility-aware routing protocol that quickly updates the preferred parent(PP) of the mobile nodes(MN) whenever the MN moves away from the current PP.
2. To support mobility in RPL, designed, implemented, and evaluated an OF considering multiple routing metrics to select a PP.
3. The experimental results demonstrate that ERPL outperforms existing works regarding improved Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), less power consumption and reduced end-to-end delay.

Performance Evaluation:
The simulation results are obtained by varying the speed of the MN, the number of packet transmissions, and the trickle timer under the grid and random topologies. There are 50 mobile nodes used by using the random waypoint mobility model plugin.
Performance Metrics:
 •  PDR
 •  Energy Consumption
 •  Throughput
 •  Delay
 •  Control Packet Overhead
 •  Execution Time
 •  CPU Energy Consumption
