The emerging wireless technology can connect heterogeneous devices like physical and virtual things to make human life easy, fruitful, and safer. The heterogeneous characteristics of such devices increase the security concerns in various application fields. Generally, wireless networks are used in diverse application fields such as the smart industry, smart home, automated application services, smart healthcare, and intelligent transportation systems. The devices are heterogeneous based on the application requirement. The wireless medium and device heterogeneity make wireless communication insecure in the presence of threats. Also, the network protocols utilize multiple layers to perform the network functions, and the security requirement of every layer is varied based on the application type. If an attacker compromises the network functions, the entire activity of the system may be failed. Providing network security depending on application types is crucial to maximizing the performance of wireless networks.
