Research Proposal on the Lightweight ECC and DTLS for CoAP Authentication

Research Proposal on the Lightweight ECC and DTLS for CoAP Authentication

Previously, several authentications and encryption protocols have been designed to provide data confidentiality and integrity. However, IoT consists of resource constraint smart sensors, and adaptability of IoT communication protocols in several smart applications requires designing an efficient and lightweight security authentication scheme. An improved ECC is suitable for suggesting a lightweight security scheme for CoAP.
Most IoT applications explore DTLS for CoAP security and authentication, but it is unsuitable for resource-constrained sensors. The DTLS includes expensive handshaking and a lengthy cipher suite agreement process. Moreover, the nodes cannot be protected from attacks always due to the complex handshaking process. Moreover, the necessity of a separate channel for DTLS incurs high overhead. Thus, it is essential to integrate the DTLS features and the security and authentication features in CoAP instead of using a separate channel for DTLS.
