A Lightweight Trust-Based System To Ensure Security On The Internet Of Battlefield Things Environment

Research Area:  Internet of Things

Abstract:

Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging technology that transmit and receive the real time data with the help of smart objects connected over the internet. The benefits of IoT lead to various real time applications especially the military environment getting more attention and resulting in Internet of Battlefield Things (IoBT). IoBT offers numerous benefits however security related issues are upstretched due to the open, shared, and constrained resources of smart objects involved. Most of the vulnerability in such an environment is rising in the form of various attacks like Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS) which highly threatens the IoBT environment. In this paper, a lightweight trust-based security system to avoid the DDoS attack over the Routing Protocol for Low power lossy network (RPL) is proposed. The main objective is to detect and eliminate the DDoS nodes by deciding on communicating devices thereby authentication of individual nodes can be achieved with the help of the node’s final trust. The final trust value is calculated with the help of direct and indirect trust values. The simulation result of the proposed system is giving better results in terms of various performance metrics while comparing with the existing similar works.
