Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) are active and self-organized wireless networks for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) that allow vehicles to collaborate to improve driving efficiency and enhance traffic safety without centralized infrastructure. VANET is a soft real-time communication technology with strict time boundaries for end-to-end transmission delay. Vehicles are equipped with sensors, global positioning systems(GPS), and communication systems to perform tasks related to efficiency, comfort, and safety on the road.

Data dissemination strategies in VANET help improve efficiency and safety by reducing the delivery delay time and ensuring the reliability of message delivery. VANETs can use any wireless networking technology as their basis. The most prominent short-range radio technologies are WLAN and DSRC. Cellular technologies or LTE and 5G can be used for VANETs. Some security challenges in VANETs are Attacks on Authentication/identification, confidentiality, privacy, non-repudiation, and data trust. The most popular VANET application aims to send early alerts and ensures timely responses to specific situations to ensure safe travel, and localization is one of the most typical applications in VANET. It directly related the challenging issue of determining accurate ranges and range rates of vehicles to other vehicles.
