Research Area:  Wireless Sensor Networks
This paper provides a theoretical model for the computation of the probability density function of multi-hop broadcast latency when using probabilistic broadcasting schemes in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The probability density functions of multi-hop latency are derived by considering the per-hop random delays employed in protocols and the geometry of the position of nodes. The assumptions of the model allow computation of probability density functions that approximate simulation results in a variety of network scenarios and per-hop random delay configurations. The accuracy of the theoretical predictions increases in scenarios with moderate redundancy of broadcast packets.
