A Novel Lightweight Mitigation Techniques for RPL Version Number Attacks in IoT - Cooja Project

Research Area:

IOT

Research Topics:

Contiki Cooja Simulator Projects in RPL Routing Protocol

Tools Languages:  Contiki-Cooja / Contiki NG simulator, Front End: Java, Back End: C

Software Requirement:  Vmware workstation player, Instant Contiki-3.0

Aim and Objectives:
This project presents lightweight mitigation techniques for RPL Version Number Attacks (VNA), which affect the performance of IPv6-connected Low Power and Lossy Networks (LLNs) detrimentally using the contiki-cooja simulator.

Contribution:
1. The main contribution of the project is to propose novel lightweight mitigation techniques for RPL VNA, which promise significant performance improvements against the attack.
2. The presented schemes come with different resource requirements and performance gains, allowing network administrators to trade off the mitigation performance against the resource overheads.
3. The accuracy results show that our novel mitigation schemes successfully discriminate the malicious VN(Version Number) updates from the legitimate ones.

Performance Evalution:
This project analyzes the performance of the proposed work. A complete scheme has been implemented in the Cooja simulator provided by the Contiki operating system. The network environment consists of 30 normal nodes and ten malicious nodes.
Performance Metrics:
 •  PDR
 •  Energy Consumption
 •  Throughput
 •  Delay
 •  Control Packet Overhead
 •  Execution Time
 •  CPU Energy Consumption
