Cooja Project for Increased Network Lifetime and Load Balancing Based on Network Interface Average Power Metric for RPL

Research Area:

IOT

Research Topics:

Contiki Cooja Simulator Projects in RPL Routing Protocol

Tools Languages:  Contiki-Cooja / Contiki NG simulator, Front End: Java, Back End: C

Software Requirement:  Vmware workstation player, Instant Contiki-3.0

Aim and Objectives:
To develop a design and implementation of increased network lifetime and load balancing based on network interface average power metric for RPL using the contiki-cooja simulator.

Contribution:
1. This project introduces the network interface average power metric (NIAP), a new metric based on the estimated average power consumption of the network interface, which contributes not only to the choice of reliable paths but also to load balancing and lifetime increasing of a wireless sensor network.
2. The results of several experiments conducted in a simulated environment demonstrate that NIAP is a promising alternative to ETX due to its simple implementation without modifications to the RPL standard.

Performance Evalution:
The experiments were performed to obtain software performance for 70-node random topologies and were Monitored using the contiki-cooja simulator.
Performance Metrics:
 •  Hop Count
 •  PDR
 •  Energy Consumption
 •  Throughput
 •  Delay
 •  Control Packet Overhead
 •  Execution Time
 •  CPU Energy Consumption
