Design and Performance Analysis of Intrusion Detection in the RPL-Connected 6LoWPAN Networks in IoT

Cooja Project for Intrusion Detection in the RPL-Connected 6LoWPAN Networks

Research Area:

IOT

Research Topic:

Contiki Cooja Simulator Projects in RPL Routing Protocol

Tools and Languages:  Contiki-Cooja / Contiki NG simulator, Front End: Java, Back End: C

Software Requirements:  Vmware workstation player, Instant Contiki-3.0

Aim and Objectives:
The main goal of the project is to design and perform an analysis of intrusion detection in the RPL-connected 6LoWPAN networks in IoT using the contiki-cooja simulator.

Contributions:
1. To create an IDS(Intrusion Detection System) module for the RPL ETX metric.
2. To improve the detection rate, it proposes the use of geographical hints.
3. Using an IoT protocol, this project implements and evaluates the extensions in a simulated RPL network.

Performance Evaluation:
This project is implemented in Contiki, an operating system for the IoT. To evaluate the energy/power consumption and true positive rate of a network comprising 4,6, and 8 legitimate nodes. Due to the simulation limitations, show results for up to eight legitimate nodes. Our simulations also consist of two attacker nodes.
Performance Metrics:
 •  PDR
 •  Energy Consumption
 •  Power Consumption
 •  True Positive Rate
 •  Throughput
 •  Delay
 •  Control Packet Overhead
 •  Execution Time
 •  CPU Energy Consumption
