Research Paper on Blockchain Security and Privacy for the Internet of Things

Research Area:  Blockchain Technology

Abstract:

In today’s world, the technologies like Blockchain and Internet of Things (IoT) are considered to be the inevitable world-changing technologies. In today’s age where the revolution of IoT is laying foundations for a world to bring it to possibility for interconnection and automation of routine tasks that further requires certain enhanced features like security, privacy of data, easy deployment, robustness, and so forth, can possibly be achieved by a technology called Blockchain, which is born with a cryptocurrency popularly known as Bitcoin. So, if we merge them together, it will give rise to a network of interconnected devices with capability of interaction of smart devices and decision-making even without human intervention. Keeping this in view, without exaggerating, Blockchain technology might prove to be like a silver bullet to the IoT world. If we think of any failure in IoT world, it comes with a threat exposure to the safety of the whole system. Here comes the role of Blockchain, which proves out to be a boon for managing the data across all IoT devices as it has the cushion of supplementary layer of security with many vigorous encryption standards. In this chapter, we will discuss about the issues such as security and privacy related to IoT, which on the one hand, is confronting rampant incubation in the fields of research and industry, and on the other hand still has to endure with finding the solution of the issues mentioned earlier. Herein the Blockchain approach that underpins the cryptocurrency can further be used to dispense security and privacy to IoT.
