Research Area:  Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Nowadays the security assurance of information in Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETs) is achieved by using secret keys. The dynamic and unpredictable nature of the network places challenges before the researchers in developing a suitable key generation method. Many of the present-day works aim at identifying passive attackers in the network and to protect the information from them. Active attackers are still posing difficulties in effective communication over Adhoc network. This paper proposes a point to point secret key generation scheme with the metadata traffic load suitable for Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) based MANETs. This work aims to extract correlated random data from the routing information and traffic matrix to develop a secret key and to study the effectiveness of this in identifying passive and active attackers. This scheme also ensures an optimum packet overhead and less computational complexity.
