Critical Analysis of RPL Objective Functions – Cooja Project

Research Area:

IoT

Research Topic:

Contiki Cooja Simulator Projects in RPL Routing Protocol

Tools and Languages:  Contiki-Cooja / Contiki NG simulator, Front End: Java, Back end: C

Software Requirements:  Vmware workstation player, Instant Contiki-3.0

Aim and Objectives:  This project aims to analyze the RPL objective functions using the cooja simulator in IoT.

Contributions:
1. To implement a generalized MRHOF algorithm has been presented in a structured manner for parent node selection addressing different metrics used for node or link.
2. To create parent selection models, combining rank and node/link metrics.
3. RPL network analysis has been extended for packet delivery ratio (PDR), power consumption, hop count, and average ETX, which are important performance parameters for IoT Sensor Networks.

Performance Evaluation:  The simulation results have been evaluated using the linear grid topology for a small network with 15 sensor nodes and a larger network with 30 nodes.
Performance Metrics:
 •  PDR
 •  Energy Consumption
 •  Hop Count
 •  ETX
 •  Throughput
 •  Delay
 •  Control Packet Overhead
 •  Execution Time
