The congestion occurs when the vehicle population exceeds the actual level and more nodes compete to access the network resources. The dynamic VANET density and high network partitions are the main reasons for congestion. Congestion control is one of the major challenges in the VANET environment. The congestion control mechanism provides equal preferences to the competing vehicles by employing efficient allocation methods even the vehicle density is high.
