Medium access control (MAC) protocols can assure timely data transmissions and efficiently improve road safety performance by fairly sharing the channel resources between numerous competing vehicles. The MAC protocols are categorized into two types that are single-channel and multi-channel. The single-channel MAC protocols rectify the resource allocation issues, whereas the multi-channel MAC protocols are mainly used to support concurrent data transmissions.
