Mobile Forensic Investigation Life Cycle Process for Digital Data Discovery

Research Area:  Digital Forensics

Abstract:

The process of gathering digital data is called digital data discovery (DDD) is done by using digital forensic software. The digital forensic experts can investigate and gain data from the acquired electronic devices. The electronic devices may be a storage media, accessories of the mobile phone, smart phones, and add-on parts like SD RAM, camera, audio, video recorders, etc. The existing digital forensics investigation (DFI) procedures are followed fundamentally with computers and standard file systems, but in recent days the use of smart phones and new mobile operating systems and new file systems presents more challenges for DFI. This can be addressed by introducing new policies, methodologies and life cycle process for effective Mobile Forensic Investigation (MFI). This paper will contribute potential evidence from DFI to MFI. It also deals with the technical compliance of all smart phone hardware and software relatively. The MFI life cycle process of forensic digital data discovery (DDD) is befitting to professional forensic community to understand the ecosystem of MFI.
