Traffic Agents-Based Analysis of Hotspot Effect in IoT-Enabled Wireless Sensor Network - 2021

Traffic Agents-Based Analysis Of Hotspot Effect In IoT-Enabled Wireless Sensor Network

Research Area:  Internet of Things

Abstract:

The hotspot become vital issue in the IoT-Enabled Wireless Sensor Network (I-WSN) that is created due to the high consumption of energy of the sink neighboring nodes. As data is transmitted from one intermediary node to the next node, the address of the previous node is also added to the data in the header of the data packet. In such condition, the size of data is increased with every hop count and exhausts the energy of the nodes for data transmission, especially when the network composed of IoT devices. Due to heavy transmission in the network sink neighboring nodes drain more energy and become dead early. The early death of these nodes affects the network performance badly and create the other severe issues in the network like unnecessary delay, network breakdowns, and low PDR. Due to this condition nodes cannot reach the destination and the whole network become isolated. In this paper, the effect of the hotspot is measured against the performance of the network before and after its occurrence. The simulation analysis is done under TCP and UDP protocols and observed that the I-WSN affected most roughly due to the hotspot under the TCP then UDP.
