Recent research in pseudonym management for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) focuses on enhancing privacy, authentication, and traceability while minimizing computational and communication overhead. Pseudonym management schemes are designed to protect vehicle identities and prevent tracking by frequently changing pseudonyms during communication, especially in high-density or intersection zones. Modern approaches integrate blockchain technology for decentralized and tamper-proof pseudonym issuance, ensuring transparency without relying on a central authority. Additionally, adaptive pseudonym change strategies based on vehicle mobility, traffic context, and anonymity sets are employed to balance privacy with communication efficiency. Advanced cryptographic techniques such as homomorphic encryption, Cuckoo filters, and group signatures are also used to maintain unlinkability and accountability, strengthening trust and privacy preservation in secure vehicular communication systems.
